About Us

Alcohol related challenges are similar all over the region. There are clear evidence-based links between alcohol use and HIV/AIDS and Gender Based Violence as well as crime, road accidents and interpersonal violence.

The constantly increasing statistics of alcohol consumption, the similar tactics of the alcohol industry and the huge financial, social and health burden borne by the SADC population make it imperative that the countries in the region work together to address this issue. SAAPA aims to build capacity in the region both in terms of knowledge of the problem, and ability to share this knowledge and lobby for alcohol policy change. It is a growing network which currently has representation in seven countries in the region.
